Practice and Pickin’

September 18th, 2011 @ 9:01 pm

Our first day of “Daddy’s in India” started out with Burger King breakfast and soccer practice. Last week’s soccer practice didn’t go so well. I cried. A lot. Momma was a little concerned going all solo style and all, but after a few small tears and some warm-up drills I was good to go! In fact, I scored 3 or 4 points for my team during a kicking drill! I was so proud of myself that I came running off the field yelling, “I didn’t cry at all, Momma!”
After my awesome 45 minute practice, we headed to Mema and Pepa’s house to do some Pickin. Some American Pickers style pickin. As soon as we turned down the “…backroads of America…” Una busted out her flashlight and was ready to find some rusted gold! I’ll be honest, after about 10 minutes, I was more interested in Pepa’s wrench collection than I was looking through all that rusty old stuff. However, I did a little dumpster diving later on in the day and scored myself a McDonalds toy (Diego for Ice Age)! Score one for Picker Parker!
Around lunchish time, Mitchell made his entrance. Momma and Mema packed us all in the truck and we headed to…where else…McDonald’s to get some grub. We played, laughed, and giggled all the way there! We LOVE to play with our cousin Mitchell. He’s so fun and smart!
Momma was on kid duty after finishing up the last of our nuggets and fries. So where else to do you take kids to wear them out? THE MALL! We walked all over that place! Momma did let us play at the playground for a bit, too, but Mitchell Man was so tired that he fell asleep in the car on the way back to Mema’s house!
The Lebanon Lawson packed it in to head for home and a Skype call from Daddy. It was about 6 or 7 in the morning where he was! He and Momma chatted for awhile while Una and I shared some popcorn and some TV. We capped off the day by hittin the hay in Momma’s room. We miss Daddy, but we sure like sleeping in his room while he’s gone!
PS-ask Una about a potential disaster in the attic of Pepa’s shop while she was pickin’ with Uncle TC.

First Soccer Practice

September 10th, 2011 @ 1:11 pm

We’ve been gearing up for this day for a while. I got some new shorts and a shiny soccer ball. We practiced in the yard the last few days and, by all accounts, I was primed and ready to go. I was even running around like crazy, kicking that soccer ball all over for my own little pre-practice warmup.

Until the coach blew the whistle. Uncle Manata would say that I was scared of the tage. We had a little huddle, then went in to warmup with the team and I wasn’t quite sure I liked all of this team attention. We did high knees, butt kicks, side steps, and dribbling drills, but I was reluctant to show off my skills and took a little convincing to stay on the field. After a while I became more comfortable…not liking it by any measure, but at least tolerating it. By the end, I was at least getting a little pep as we played Tag, which was really like Keep Away where we had to protect our soccer ball from the 2 kids that were “it”.

Barely sweating or breathing hard, it was time for practice to come to a close for this week. I must have done OK, because it earned me a Slushie on our way out of town. Wish me luck for next week!
