Twas a few weeks before Christmas
And our weekend was filled
With special events
That had us all thrilled.
First was the fat guy
At ol’ Santa Bob’s.
Feeding pancakes and milk
To the toy crazy mobs.
I went up there with Poppa
But stayed on his lap
And kept one eye locked
On the jolly old chap.
Riley, the brave one
Jumped right up to see
What she could get Santa
To leave under the tree.
We all got bags full
Of goodies and treats
Said “Good Bye” to Gigi
(The sweetest of sweets).
We said “Thank You” to Poppa
For another year more
Of Breakfast with Santa
And then hit the door.
Next, out in the snow
And in to our sleigh
For a day full of fun
Called “Cousin’s Play Day!”
The Mommies went out
To find present booty
While the Daddies stayed back
And took care of Kid Duty.
On the grandest of scales
Our fun was “a bunch”.
Then Uncle Manata
Whipped up some lunch.
We ate and we laughed
Then went down for a snooze.
Where I caught a case
Of the Terrible Twos.
I wasn’t cranky or pouty
Just not really tired
But I did lay down still,
Which was all they required.
The Mommies returned
To hear tales of our day.
More playing and pizza
Then Mom and Dad slipped away.
They drove all the way out
To Mema and Pepa’s
And whisked them away
For dinner at McGraw’s.
Happy Anniversary!
40′s a lot
Of years to look back on
Since tying the knot.
Back at the ranch
The movies were great
The best part was, though,
Staying up late!
We finally wore out
Way after bed time.
Up the stairs to their beds
Riley and Taylor did climb.
Morgan and I
Tried to stay awake
But Daddy kept filling
His pie hole with steak.
But we didn’t make it,
Our attempt was in vain.
Morgan had visions of dress-up
And I dreamt of the train.
All in all we had fun.
Can’t say “Thanks!” enough
To Riley and Taylor
For letting us play with their stuff.
And to Manata and Carrie
Thanks to you too.
My poem’s almost over
So I bid you adieu.
Without this last line
It wouldn’t be right
So, “Merry Christmas to all,
And to all a good night!”
